Why Women Need Women (And Why We Keep Forgetting)
We were never meant to do this alone. But somewhere along the way, we started competing instead of connecting, performing instead of belonging. Here's how to come back to each other.
For most of human history, women healed in community. We gathered. We told our stories. We held each other's children and each other's grief. We knew, in a way that was cellular and ancient, that we were not meant to do this alone.
Somewhere along the way, we forgot.
We learned to compete instead of connect. To perform strength instead of share struggle. To keep our pain private, our doubts hidden, our needs carefully managed so as not to burden anyone. We learned to be islands.
And we are exhausted by it.
I started Bloom Where You Break because I know what it feels like to be a woman in crisis with no one to call. Not because there were no women in my life, but because I had never learned how to let them in. I had never learned that asking for help was not weakness. That being witnessed in your pain was not a burden. That belonging to a community of women who truly see you is one of the most healing things available to us.
The research backs this up. A landmark study published in PLOS Medicine found that women with strong social ties live significantly longer and recover from illness faster. We are literally healthier when we are in genuine community with each other.
So why do we keep forgetting? Because we've been taught, by culture, by competition, by the myth of the self-sufficient woman, that needing others is a liability. It isn't. It is a superpower.
Coming back to each other starts small. It starts with one honest conversation. One admission that you are not okay. One woman saying 'me too' and meaning it. It starts with choosing connection over performance, every single time.
We were never meant to do this alone. And we don't have to. Join the Bloom Circle community and find your people.
